This report summarizes the results from a three year research project entitled “Snow and Ice Control for Parking Lots and Sidewalks (SICOPS)”, from the University of Waterloo. The project, which SIMA helped to lead, was designed to help us understand best practice application methods and more precisely begin to calculate rates of salt that are both effective and efficient for facility-focused snow management. The study was funded by Landscape Ontario, University of Waterloo, and SIMA.
The document highlights the important findings from the project along with a number of recommendations that can help maintenance contractors and government agencies develop a cost-effective winter maintenance program for snow and ice control of parking lots and sidewalks.
The salt study results report is free to SIMA members, simply click the blue View Online button (right-hand side toolbar) and login with your SIMA credentials. This course will be automatically added to your Resource 24/7 Classroom.
